पहाड़ की पगडंडी:
सँकरी, पथरीली, ढाँटी,
पर स्पष्ट लक्ष्य की ओर जाती हुई :
मातबर और भरोसेदार
पगडंडी जो एक दिन निश्चय ही तुम्हें
पहाड़ पर पहुँचा देगी।
The mountain trail:
narrow, rocky, steep,
but leading clearly toward a destination,
solid and dependable,
a path that will surely take you
to the top someday.

सागर की लहर:
विशाल, चिकनी, सपाट,
पर बिछलती-फिसलती हमेशा अज्ञात, अदृश्य को टेरती हुई,
बेभरोस और आवारा...
लहर
जो न कभी कहीं पहुँचेगी, न पहुँचाएगी, न पहुँचने देगी,
जो डुबाएगी नहीं,
तो वहीं लौटा लाएगी जहाँ से चले थे —
सिवाए इसके कि वह “वहीं” तब वह “वहीं” नहीं होगा।
The ocean wave:
vast, smooth, flat,
yet slippery and always calling toward the unknown, the unseen,
unreliable and drifting...
a wave
that may never reach anywhere, never take you, never let you arrive,
that won’t drown you,
but will return you to where you began —
except that by then, that place won’t be the same.
